Not sure which PROC to submit your application to?

Your research project should only be submitted to one PROC for review.
Your project may overlap departments, and that is okay. The key is that your project is submitted to the PROC that best matches the practice area affected. Guidance is provided below.
If you are still unsure of which PROC to submit your project to for review, please consult with the Director of Clinical Research, Dr. Mary Harmon, at mary.harmon@vcuhealth.org
  • If the project involves pediatric patients or a pediatric department, regardless of how much involvement, your project should be submitted to the Children’s Hospital of Richmond PROC for review.
  • If your project will take place at Community Memorial Hospital (CMH), your project should be submitted to the Community Memorial Hospital PROC.
  • If your project primarily involves surgical patients or a surgical department, your project should be submitted to the VCU Department of Surgery PROC for review.
  • If your project primarily involves internal medicine patients or an internal medicine department, your project should be submitted to the VCU Department of Internal Medicine PROC for review.
  • If your project primarily involves nursing or another health profession (i.e. PT, OT, RRT, etc), your project should be submitted to the Nursing and Health Professions PROC.
  • All oncology-related projects should continue to be submitted to the Massey Cancer Center Protocol Reviewand Monitoring Committee (PRMC) for review. PROC submission is not required.
